Summary of the story.
"All I ever wanted was for Juli Baker to leave me alone." is the hook of the story, pretty intriguing right? This is a book told from 2 very different points of view and it's really interesting to see how 2 people can be so different.
Beginning
The first few chapters are a recount of when Bryce and his family first moved into their house. Bryce knew Juli was trouble from the moment she first climbed into the moving truck with her muddy shoes and dirty hands. That was only the beginning. She would constantly be at their house asking if Bryce was home and he hid, every single time. This behaviour continued but as they got older seemed to get a little better. In grade 5 Bryce pretended to like Shelly Stalls because Juli hated her and that really made her mad. After that recount, the story skips a grade and talks about the changes grade 7 brought. Not in school but at home. Bryce's grandpa Chet came to live with them. After grade 7 ended and grade 8 began something caught Bryce's attention. There was a big commotion one morning before school and as Bryce trekked up the hill he saw Juli arguing with men and some of the kids on their bus about her Sycamore Tree. Then he saw the chain saws. After the tree incident, Juli stopped taking the bus and was very quiet at school and this started to worry Bryce, until he snapped back and realized what he was doing.

In the next chapters Bryce re-tells a story about why he doesn't like eggs and the reason he brings this up is Juli started to bring over cartons of eggs. One year for the science fair Juli hatched 6 little chickens from eggs and now that those chickens are big they are laying eggs! Since the little egg incident he had he hasn't been able to look at an egg without gagging let alone eat one. Mr. Loski demands that Bryce ask Juli if they have a rooster or not. Bryce doesn't want to ask her so he looks over their back yard fence and comes to the conclusion that there are no roosters. When he is telling his dad about his discoveries his dad gets mad because he thinks that Bryce is scared of Juli because he wouldn't ask her a simple question. Bryce assumes the eggs will stop coming but they don't and he never tells Juli that they don't want them and eventually she sees them in the garbage and gets really upset.
Ever since Juli found out, she had been ignoring and very obviously avoiding Bryce making him feel terrible about what he'd said. To make it worse he sees her out in her yard hacking away at bushes fixing the yard up... alone. In the next few days he sees his grandfather helping Juli and boy, does that make him mad. Chet teaches her all kinds of things and they become very close friends, talking about a lot of different things. When Bryce sees him later on he's very cheery, until Bryce's dad starts talking at dinner. At the end of the week Bryce is feeling angry and bad about everything he said so he goes over and talks to Juli. He had come over to apologize and Juli is conflicted. She can't tell if he's really sorry or just feeling guilty. At dinner that night Mr. Loski crosses a lot of lines while talking and gets everyone mad at him. One night he was in his room reading the paper that talked about Juli trying to save her Sycamore tree, and that's when he started to flip.
Close to The End
After the whole dinner fight disaster the whole family is eating breakfast together when Mrs. Loski proposes a solution to the whole situation. She wants to invite the Bakers over for dinner and everyone except for Chet is completely opposed to it. Bryce was worried about the egg thing coming up again so he told his mom about everything and made her promise not to tell Mr. Loski. Then he started to get distracted by Juli whenever she was around. Then his friend, Garret, caught Bryce while he was staring at Juli and he was grilling him. In order to get Garret to believe that he didn't like Juli he laughs at a joke that totally crosses a line and who hears it other than Juli. Juli awakens early one morning and catches her dad sneaking off to meet her uncle David and she insists that she tags along. Then, like I mentioned before she hears Bryce and she is completely fed up with all his two-faced lies, his insincere apologies and his brilliant blue eyes!
Bryce and Juli are starting to swap places... to flip. Bryce is helplessly in love but Juli doesn't feel the same way. The rest of the story is filled with apologies, basket boy auctions and unexpected actions caused by jealousy. To see what happens you'll have to read the book, or let your imagination figure out a scenario.
